Bonaire tourist tax and nature fee 2026: what you pay and how
Every visitor to Bonaire pays a tourist tax, and anyone who goes into the sea also needs a nature fee. Neither is included in the price of your stay, here or on any booking site. This is what I tell every guest, so you can sort both out in ten minutes before you fly.

The two fees at a glance
Tourist tax (visitor entry tax)
Bonaire introduced the visitor entry tax in 2022, replacing the old room tax. You pay it once per visit, per person, including babies.
- $75 per person aged 13 and over
- $10 for children aged 12 and under
- Valid for one month from your first arrival, so a day trip to Curaçao and back doesn't cost you twice
- Residents of the former Netherlands Antilles, such as Curaçao and Aruba, pay $10 with a valid sedula
How to pay
- Go to the official site, tourismtax.bonairegov.com. Payment opens about a week before your arrival.
- Fill in everyone's passport details and your flight. Do one booking for the whole group.
- Pay by card (Dutch travellers can also use iDEAL). You receive a QR code per person by email.
- Keep the QR codes on your phone together with your passports. Forgot? You can still pay by card at the kiosks in the arrival hall; cash isn't accepted.
Nature fee (STINAPA)
The whole coast of Bonaire is a marine park, including the reef right in front of our apartments. The nature fee pays for its protection. You need it as soon as you go into the sea, whether you dive, snorkel, swim or kayak, and to enter Washington Slagbaai National Park.
- $40 per person, valid for the calendar year (1 January to 31 December)
- Children under 13 are free, unless they scuba dive
- Residents of Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba are exempt with ID
- Pay online at stinapa.bonairenaturefee.org; you get a QR code by email to show with your ID when asked
Tip: the nature fee runs per calendar year, not per 12 months. Arriving in late December and staying into January? You'll need a new one for the new year.
Example: what does a family pay?
Two parents and two children aged 10 and 14, who all snorkel but don't dive:
A couple who both dive pays 2 × $75 + 2 × $40 = $230.
Frequently asked questions
Is the tourist tax included in my booking?
No. Not with us and not on Airbnb or other booking sites. You always pay it yourself to the government.
Do I need the nature fee if I only use the pool?
No. You only need it when you go into the sea or visit Washington Slagbaai park. But with the reef right outside the door, most of our guests do.
What if I don't pay in advance?
You can pay the tourist tax by card on arrival at the airport, which can mean a queue. The nature fee is checked at the national park and can be checked at sea, so pay it before your first swim.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are generally not possible, so pay once your trip is certain.
Amounts and rules can change. Always check the official sites above before you pay. Spotted something that's out of date? Send me a message and I'll update this page.
Stay right on the reef
Once your fees are sorted, the reef starts at the foot of our building. Have a look at Dolphin, Tuna and Hummingbird, or read the full Bonaire guide for getting here, diving and exploring the island.
